The development of the Sangkulirang Mangkalihat Geopark, which covers the Berau and East Kutai Regencies, has geological, biodiversity and cultural potential that could be proposed as a national geopark. The decision of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources provides evidence that the geological heritage in these two districts is worthy of being continued.

The East Kalimantan government has formed a Geopark Management Agency as a follow-up to determining geological heritage. Acceleration is needed for this agency so that the preparation of documentation for the proposed Sangkulirang Mangkalihat geopark can be carried out. At the same time, socialization, promotion of geoparks and strengthening of geological heritage management institutions are also needed. It is hoped that this consultancy project can become one of YKAN's roles so that this process is more dynamic and the target of proposing the Sangkulirang Mangkalihat geopark can be achieved.
