Rotan in East Kalimantan is a focus for enhancing the welfare of communities around social forestry areas. Despite having the second largest population of rotan in Indonesia, the region lacks a significant processing industry, resulting in the sale of raw rotan at low prices. Key challenges include limited processing techniques, infrastructure for structured marketing, and lack of recognition in the rotan commodity sector. A comprehensive mapping is needed for rotan in Berau and Bulungan districts, addressing sustainable harvesting practices, cultivation certification, and value-added improvements in the supply chain.
